Update: A bit more delving has brought up an notice on Apple's website Mac Pro (Early 2008): ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT video card with distorted video or no video I see it was a known issue for these cards.Apple announced macOS 10.14 Mojave, the anticipated follow-up to High Sierra, at today’s WWDC 2018 keynote.

Does anybody in this Mac forum have a spare card laying around? So, what to do now? The evidence so far points towards graphic card failure but Google has also pointed out that there's a chance the motherboard/logic board might be at fault. I'm assuming that I can't go and get/buy just a standard HD2600 and throw it into the Mac and expect it to work or can I? But, that's not really for me.well not at this time anyway. I've seen also the flashing a different firmware to a non compatible card can be done too.

#Graphics cards for 2010 mac pro desktop 5.1 supported Pc#
I've seen that the cards that are compatible with this Mac Pro have a different firmware than standard pci-e graphics cards so does that mean they can't be used in a Windows pc if I buy one and that turns out not to be the problem? Another HD2600 or a HD5770 maybe even a Nvidia 8800GT but on a certain auction site I can see people are going for large profit margins Moving forward and really nailing this issue will take a bit more work and head scratching too. Ok I've had a little Google session and found my options are limited to what cards will work. I've left it with the cmos battery out over night and I'm going to return to the problem later tonight but I would love some help on this from people who have so much more experience than I do. So the OS seems to load ok and the machine seems to be working but with no video from the mother board/logic board. As a final test I put my wireless keyboard usb dongle into one of the rear usb ports and heard from the hdd and saw the front led flash as the Mac go what's this you've installed and see it do the same as I've pressed various keys. I then moved onto putting the pci-e card into the other pci-e x16 slot hoping it might be a bad slot but to no avail. I tried DVI to VGA connector to screen, I tried DVI to HDMI connector to screen but still no output. But, still no video signal from either DVI port. I pushed the button, heard the chimes, watch all the fans spin into life, saw the leds on the memory dimm riser cards flash red once and then heard the faint chatter of the sata hdd's start loading the OS. I put this Geforce into the Mac and left the cover off so I could see what was going on inside. Anyway I tested it my Windows machines and both were happy to output the startup & bios setting screens. So, my friend supplied another card ( Nvidia Geforce 6200) that he said he has used before or maybe it was that this other card came from another working Mac Pro. Both of which didn't output any kind of sign from either DVI connectors. I started by testing the pci-e video card which is an ATI RV630, not sure if it's the original one, in 2 other (Windows) machines. The machine turns on, the light on the power button lights up, you get the starting chimes and you can hear the hdd chatter away as they load the OS. It's the one with 2 x 2.8ghz Xeon cpu's in it and omg it's well builtĪnyway, I have a little bit of experience with building and fault finding with Windows pc's so my friend thought I might be able to help him out with a bit of bother with his aforementioned Mac Pro. Hi everyone, I'm hoping somebody can help me please?
